In the 1970s and 1980s, unions opposed to nuclear weapons and for disarmament became interested in ideas for converting areas of the defence industry to alternative socially useful forms of production. The cover of this Transport and General Workers Union pamphlet on arms conversion shows the road - rail bus, designed by workers at Lucas Aerospace Industries, which could be produced using existing skills and resources.
