George Howell (1833-1910)

George Howell (1833-1910) was first a shoemaker and then a bricklayer by trade. He was an active Chartist and then formed the London Order of the Operative Bricklayers Society. He was secretary of the London Trades Council 1861-1862 and of the Reform League 1865-1869, also serving on the Executive of the latter's successor, the Labour Representation League.

He attended the second Trades Union Congress in Birmingham in 1869 and was secretary to the TUC Parliamentary Committee 1873-1875. He was Liberal MP for North East Bethnal Green 1885-1895.
