Trades Union Congress, Bristol 1898

Congress was meeting in the large Colston Hall in Bristol when it was interrupted by a fire which started in the middle of the night in Clark's Clothing Factory next door. The Hall was completely burnt out and all the documents that had been left in the hall overnight were destroyed. However, emergency arrangements were made and Congress was able to complete its business in the smaller hall. This photograph shows the Parliamentary Committee, Standing Orders Committee, Auditors, Fraternal Delegates and Distinguished visitors in the ruins of the Hall.
