Leaflet issued by the National council for Adult Suffrage for a demonstration on 10 February 1917

The Meeting was chaired by the Bishop of Lincoln, and speakers were Sir John Simon, W.C. Anderson MP [chair of the independent Labour Party], Mary Macarthur [National Federation of Women Workers], and Mrs Barton [Women's Co-operative Guild]. The meeting was also supported by Sylvia Pankhurst's Women's Suffrage Federation.

The supporters of adult suffrage opposed limited suffrage bills (giving the vote on the same property basis as men) as they suspected they would strengthen propertied interests. Men in the armed forces were also excluded from the pre 1914 electoral register which required 12 months unbroken residence in one place.
