Mary Macarthur, secretary of the National Federation of Women Workers, stood as Labour Party candidate in Stourbridge, Worcestershire at the General Election on 14 December, 1918.

The Representation of the People Act 1918 had enfranchised women over thirty years and the Parliament (Qualification of Women) Act 1918 allowed women to stand for Parliament.

Macarthur was defeated, as were most anti-war candidates, and the election was a victory for the Coalition Government.
