Registration book of the Ashton under Lyne branch of the National Amalgamated Society of Operative House and Ship Painters, c.1899

The Society was formed in 1856 as the Manchester Alliance of Operative House Painters, and some of the branch members listed on this page were founder members. The book gives details of various benefits provided by the Society. The Painters Union merged with the Amalgamated Society of Woodworkers in 1970 and is now part of the Union of Construction, Allied Trades & Technicians.
