Military Training Act 1939

With the build up of tension leading up to the Second World War, the Government passed a Military Training Act in April 1939 . This act introduced conscription for men aged 20 and 21 who were now required to undertake six months' military training. The government decided to use the term 'militiamen' rather than 'conscript';
This leaflet advertises a meeting organised by white collar unions to protest the loss of salary during training.
