TUC Campaign for Economic and Social Advance, 1980

Following the election of a Conservative Government in 1979, the TUC launched the Campaign for Economic and social Advance to publicise its policies on public expenditure and services and to lay out its alternative economic and industrial strategy.

As part of the Campaign, the TUC organised a National Demonstration in London from Hyde Park to Trafalgar Square on 9 March 1980, followed by a day of action on 14 May, to show the strength of opposition to the Government's economic and social policies and also to the Employment Bill.
