Equal pay on British Railways - 1955

In February 1955, the Chancellor of the Exchequer announced a date for the phased-in introduction of equal pay in the civil service. This lead was soon followed by other public sector employers. This press release from the British Transport Commission, dated 6 October 1955 announces the staged introduction of equal pay for administrative, technical and clerical staff following negotiations with the railway unions.
