The Amalgamated Engineering Union carried out three enquiries into production during the war. This return is from the first survey undertaken August-September 1941. 564 firms engaged in war work from across the UK were covered and 1000 individual reports from shop stewards were received. The first survey looked mainly at production problems and workplace welfare and this return from the Ashmore Benson Pease Company in Stockton-on-Tees complains of hold-ups and under-employment through shortage of materials.
