This leaflet, entitled 'This is the People's War', was written by John Marchbank, General Secretary of the National Union of Railwaymen, in September 1940. This is believed to be the first use of the term Peoples War in relation to the Second World War. It was later used as the title of a book by Tom Wintringham, a founder of the Home Guard, which advocated arming the population and the use of guerrilla tactics.
